Key Contacts inc. Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for safeguarding and child protection.
Make certain that you record all information straight away on the dedicated Concerns Form and report the incident as soon as responsibly possible to a Live Well North East’s Designated Safeguarding Lead. Information recorded should be very thorough and should be made at the time of the concern, detailing all the facts and not including your own opinions.
Child Protection Code of Conduct
Follow these rules when you interact directly with children and young people in any capacity on behalf of Live Well North East.
Always prioritise the safety and wellbeing of the child at all times.
Always act within professional boundaries – ensure all contact with children is essential to the programme / project / activity you are working on.
Remember they are children first, and participants second.
Never give out your personal contact details, do not ‘friend’ or ‘follow’ any children or young people you are working with on any social networking sites.
Do not assume sole responsibility for a child and only take on practical caring responsibilities such as taking a child to the toilet without other staff aware and present.
Never lose sight of the fact that you are with children – behave appropriately and use appropriate language at all times.
Listen to and respect children at all times, do not patronise or belittle them and avoid favouritism.
Treat children and young people fairly and without prejudice or discrimination.
If you observe children engaging in bullying behaviour or other behaviour that may put them at risk, you must follow safeguarding procedures.
Ultimately, if you have any concerns about the welfare of a child or feel someone is behaving inappropriately around children, you have a duty to follow safeguarding procedures.
We are committed to reviewing our policy and good practice every 6 months, with annual safeguarding training for all staff. This page will be updated with a revised policy as and when new guidance is released.
